GungHo Focus Shot Review

February 26, 2014

If you have followed me for awhile you know that I have been fighting with some health issues. Over the last few months I have started reviewing and trying products that I think may help with day to day things or have natural ingredients. My idea is to get away from as much "junk" as possible.

With that said, I saw an opportunity to review an energy supplement that was an alternative to energy drinks and coffee. The info noted you would not have any jitters or experience an energy crash. I thought this would be a great product to try as it is calorie and sugar free. I said, "Awesome!"

Here is more of the company's description:

"Proven focus and brain energy for tired Moms, students or executives unlike energy shots that provide short-term energy and no long-term impact on brain energy, GungHo builds critical neurotransmitters in the brain over time"
-- Dr Perry Renshaw, MD, PhD, Former Harvard Professor, Director @ The Brain Institute
Moms say GungHo helps them get through the day (get everything done) with a smile - no crash or jitters.

The flyer arrived with three single shot packets. The instructions state to stop drinking energy drinks and sodas for three days to avoid withdrawals or a crash. This made me wonder if it in fact had any caffeine in the product and the ingredients. The site states that it is an all natural product. When the product arrived I read the ingredients and noticed that it did contain caffeine, niacin, and a host of other preservatives and flavorings.

My thoughts:

I decided to go ahead and give it a try. If you have read my blog for awhile you know that I have OCD. So, the idea of opening the packet and putting in my mouth did not appeal to me. I used what my kids used to call the waterfall method to consume the shot.

After 30 mins or so, I did notice a light increase in energy. I didn't have a sudden caffeine jolt and I was able to complete my task for the day. As stated in the product description, I did not experience a crash in energy. I will say the product works as described on the focus and energy portion.

My concerns are focused around the ingredients and taste. The first thing I noticed about my Citrus flavored shot was the overwhelming artificial sweetener taste and after taste. I am also concerned that it contains niacin because most people, including myself, experience a reaction when they consume niacin. If you take this supplement blindly and you are sensitive to niacin, that can cause a health concern.

I did not use all three packets that I received for reasons mentioned above. It does provide energy and focus but I am not happy with the taste or ingredients.

I received this product for review. All opinions are my own, negative or positive. I only review and share product that I believe are of interest to my readers.
